GULF OF GUINEA // VALLEY OAK suspicious approach 250NM South of Cotonou – 11/11/2020

EVENT DESCRIPTION // On November 11^th, around 2100 UTC, some 250NM South of Cotonou, the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker VALLEY OAK (IMO: 9438145) reported being followed by a fishing vessel at speeds up to 16.5 knots. The fishing vessel, which had proper navigation lights, approached the tanker closing up the distance. Tanker Master took evasive maneuvers and finally the fishing vessel aborted its approach.

Vessel and crew are reported safe.

The approached tanker is owned by Oaktree Capital Management LP.
