SAO TOMÉ & PRINCIPE // MOZART piracy kidnap 95NM NW of Sao Tomé Is. – 23/01/2021

EVENT DESCRIPTION // On January 23^rd, around 0530 UTC, some 95NM NW of Sao Tomé & Principe Island, the Liberia-flagged container ship MOZART (IMO: 9337274) was successfully boarded by four armed men. Crew is understood to have retreated into the citadel which was likely breached. As a result, 15 crew members have been kidnapped while one is reported to have been killed. Remaining 3 crew members are manoeuvring the vessel and proceeding to Port Gentil.
