SUPPLY VESSEL ESCAPES PIRACY ATTACK IN GABON - NOW SAFE IN PORT-GENTIL

EVENT DESCRIPTION // On October 24th, 2019, around 1145 LT, some 37NM south of Port-Gentil, Gabon, a Vanatu-flagged supply vessel was approached and attacked by unknown men.

No further information available at present time.

ANALYSIS & ADDITIONAL INFORMATION // The supply vessel had been drifting in an area located some 70NM south of Port-Gentil for over 24 hrs before resuming her voyage northward. Around the time the approach/attack was reported the vessel was underway some 37NM South of Port-Gentil. Based on available data it appears that the Master performed evasive maneuvers before managing to escape the approach. Overall duration of the attack was approximately 30 minutes. The vessel is now in Port-Gentil.

Mainstream reports of a successful hijack do not appear to be accurate. Successful boarding and kidnapping of crew, although possible, doesn’t appear to be realistic based on current intel.
