GABON // On December 22nd, around 0715 LT, a cargo vessel en route to Libreville, Gabon, was attacked approximately 45NM NW of Point Denis at the Southern tip of the Gabon estuary. According to initial reports the ship was boarded and hijacked by pirates who forced the crew to sail north. During the evening hours of the following day, after covering approximately 190NM, the pirates disembarked the ship and returned to their speedboat taking with them the Captain and the C/E. According to testimonies, 4 Chinese nationals were spotted onboard the speedboat.
The perpetrators are likely the same that attacked the bulk carrier AFRICAN KALMIA, the landing craft TROPIC DAWN and the two Chinese fishing trawlers off Owendo in the morning hours of December 22nd.
