EVENT DESCRIPTION // On November 4th, around 0520 UTC, approximately 93NM South of Brass, the Panama-flagged tanker NEFELI II (IMO: 9291638) activated its SSAS and was not responding to calls from shipowner and local authorities. According to available information and previous transit registries Russian, Georgian and Ukrainian nationals are believed to be onboard.
It was later confirmed that pirates boarded the vessel and destroyed the communication equipment in the bridge. All crew is reported to be safe.
The attacked tanker is managed by World Carrier Corp., Greece.
Update November 5th: Praesidium International was called to provide assistance to the vessel following the incident. We were informed by the Master that 6-7 persons had managed to board the NEFELI II. The pirates had approached the vessel onboard a small wood color speedboat and fired shots at the bridge (portside) damaging the windows and some equipment.
