GULF OF GUINEA – General Cargo Attacked 80NM NW of Sao Tomé February 14th, 2020

A GENERAL CARGO WAS ATTACKED NW OF SAO TOME’ WITHIN THE NIGERIA/SAO TOME’ AND PRINCIPE JDZ. PIRATES ALLEGEDLY MANAGED TO BOARD THE VESSEL.

GULF OF GUINEA // A general cargo was approached and attacked 80NM NW of Sao Tomé in the morning hours of February 14th. The action lasted for about 30 to 45 minutes. According to initial reports crew was able to retreat into the citadel and two speedboats were sighted in proximity of the attacked vessel.

The vessel has been drifting in the area of the attack since this morning. No further information available on the status of the crew.

The Sao Tomé/Nigeria Joint Development Zone (JDZ) and its surroundings have lately been the operating ground of a PAG who allegedly was benefitting from the support of a mother vessel who had been initially erroneously identified as the Determination 2 by some well accredited sources.
