NIGERIA // On December 3rd, around 2000 LT approximately 78NM south of Bonny a VLCC was approached and boarded by a group of unknown men. The men managed to board the vessel and kidnap up to 19 crew members according to initial reports.
Since the end of the rainy season, and likely due to the several Naval exercises that have taken place in Nigerian waters, this autumn attacks have mostly interested the waters of Nigeria neighboring countries. This is the first event in months within the Nigerian EEZ. In consideration of the distance from shore and the number of kidnapped seafarers the illicit operation was likely benefitting from the support of a mother vessel.
