NIGERIA – Bulk Carrier Attacked SW of Bonny Island

PIRACY ATTACK AGAINST A BULK CARRIER SW OF BONNY ISLAND REPELLED BY NIGERIAN SECURITY TEAM

NIGERIA // On December 30th, early AM, approximately 31NM SW of Bonny FWB, a Singapore-flagged bulk carrier was approached and attacked by armed men onboard a speedboat. The onboard armed Nigerian Naval team engaged in a gunfight with the assailants. Crew and vessel are reported to be safe in Bonny Town anchorage. Above picture was taken by Praesidium International staff shortly after her arrival to Bonny.

This incident is the closest occurrence SW of Bonny in several months. Similar incidents are expected to be on the rise in the upcoming weeks.
