January 21st, 2020 BRASS

NIGERIA // On January 21st, morning hours, approximately 22NM SW of Brass (Nigeria) a general cargo was attacked by up to 15 men onboard a speedboat. The attacked vessel had left Lagos earlier and was sailing to Port Harcourt when the attack occurred. Onboard Navy team managed to repel the attack after a gunfight with the pirates while crew with non-AP duties retreated into the citadel and remaining crew performed evasive maneuvers. Vessel is now reaching Bonny Island and all crew are reported to be safe.

The area has witnessed some piracy events in its proximity in the past but is not a usual hunting ground for PAG as they tend to operate further South in the corridor that extends SW of Bonny Island up to Latitude 3°N at the boundary of the JWC.
