Initial intel referred to the possible presence of a security vessel intervening from nearby field, but it was later disclosed that the Bergamini class frigate Luigi Rizzo who was patrolling the broader area intervened in support of the bulk carrier. The Italian military vessel had just concluded a military drill with a unit of the Spanish Navy (SPS AUDAZ P45) when it intercepted the distress call coming from the SCARABE. The frigate proceeded at maximum speed towards the incident location also dispatching a helicopter to reach the area of the incident. Further communication between the Master and the Frigate confirmed that the perpetrators had already left the area. The Italian frigate searched the general perimeter and later resumed her patrolling operation while the SCARABE proceeded towards her next port.
